New First Aid for Terrorist Attack App & Pocket Guide Released

Thankfully, the possibility of being caught up in a terrorist attack for ordinary members of the British public is remote. Though, with the recent attacks in Europe, the past attacks in the UK and the current threat level for international terrorism being set by MI5 at “severe” you would be forgiven for a little apprehension when attending public events particularly in larger towns and cities.

Rather than simply being scared at the prospect of something happening, after all, this is what “terrorism”, by definition is designed to do, a new initiative is encouraging us to be prepared. We are aware that even a little first aid knowledge is an advantage for everyday accidents but a large scale violent attack with weapons?

citizenAID™ has been set up by four experienced UK civilian and military clinicians. Using a website, app and pocket guide they aim to give us all simple and accessible advice to not only help ourselves but others in the unlikely event that we were to be caught up in such a situation.

The citizenAID™ website explains, “When there is a shooting, stabbing or bomb explosion the initial priority will be public safety. This can delay the time before the emergency services are able to reach the injured. citizenAID™ enables the general public to be effective in these situations before the emergency services are available to provide professional medical support.”

It is often some time before first aid treatment or evacuation can take place as the main task of the police and security services is to neutralise the threat first. In this time you and those around you cannot expect help from the usual emergency paramedics.

You are going to have to do what you can yourself. Having the knowledge of what to do reduces fear of the situation, helps you keep calm and take charge and also has the effect of reassuring others around you.

Sirius welcomes this initiative and would suggest good first aid lifesaving skills training in addition to this initiative to fully prepare yourself for the sadly increasing threat of terrorist attack wherever you are in the world.
